M(Other)HOOD／媽與她與他與它：媽組人生 is a research-driven time-based work initiated by artist Scarlet Yu in 2021, in collaboration with choreographer Tung I-fen, with researcher Fan Xiang Jun joining the project in 2023. Together, they have developed a long-term inquiry that unfolds across artistic, discursive, and embodied contexts. Drawing on Knitting Meshwork as both a choreographic method and mode of collective action, the work cultivates performance encounters that weave together bodies, senses, and social imaginaries. M(Other)HOOD functions like a shapeshifting container—continually reconfigured by the contexts, participants, and relations it touches.

The title M(Other)HOOD carries three layers of meaning:

M stands for “me,” “mother,” or “mobilizer,” highlighting subjectivity in its varied forms;

The bracketed (Other) refers to the irreducible presence of otherness in the experience of mothering, both as boundary and as relational trigger;

Hood evokes a flexible, sheltering spatial structure that allows motherhood to traverse diverse cultures and life conditions.

In this context, mothering is no longer understood as a fixed gender role, but as a relational practice—one of care, resistance, maintenance, and transformation.

《M(Other)HOOD／媽與她與他與它：媽組人生》是一項由藝術家余美華（Scarlet Yu）發起的研究型表演計畫，自 2021 年起與編舞家董怡芬（Tung I-fen）共同展開，並於 2023 年邀請研究者樊香君（Fan Xiang Jun）加入共同發展。該計畫持續在多個藝術場域中進行，以身體作為思考與創作的媒介，探索母職與他者經驗的動態關係。計畫以「編織網構（Knitting Meshwork）」作為編舞與行動的方法論，透過流動的實踐，生成出與觀者身體和感知交織的表演經驗。此平台猶如一個可變形的容器，在不同語境與參與中持續轉化、延展。

計畫名稱 M(Other)HOOD 蘊含三層意象：M 作為「我」、「母親」或「行動者」的主體性；括號中的 (Other) 指涉母職經驗中無法忽視的他者性——既是界線，也是關係的觸發；而 Hood 則象徵一種可承載、可變形的空間結構，讓母職得以穿越不同文化與生命狀態。

在此脈絡中，Mothering 不再被視為一個穩定的性別角色，而是一種關係實踐──關於照顧、抵抗、維持與變形。M(Other)HOOD 擁抱多元與非典型的母職經驗，擴展「母親」的定義，也邀請觀者重新思考：在當代社會中，什麼是照顧的倫理？誰可以母？誰需要被承載？藝術，又如何作為這些問題的容器，以母職作為輻射點，折射出當代人我、物我關係的多重張力。
