2024 Uncollected collective Lectures: Unapologetic Magic Mothering by Scarlet Yu Mei

In this lecture, Scarlet Yu traces unrecognizable and unconventional mothering practices—beginning with her own queer family history in Singapore, and extending to forms of mothering found within artistic and curatorial relationships, especially within the freelance artist system. Through these intimate, entangled dynamics, she reconsiders the idea of unconditional love and asks: might we imagine it instead as co-conditioning love—a love shaped through mutual influence, interdependence, and ongoing negotiation?
